BITTERS ANYONE???
This bottle is still
full
of Mt. "SHASTA BITTERS", the FULL contents
come up into the base of the FANCY NECK, so I don't think much has even evaporated out.  The bottle still retains the original cork which is un-tampered with and sunk deeply into the top, sealing it for over a century.  This
bottle IS listed in the book, BITTERS BOTTLES", and is listed as number -
S95.9
.   This is
a LABEL ONLY bottle
, it is
NOT
embossed
.
Bottle's label reads, in part
:
"
"
SHASTA
"
/ BITTERS ... INVALUABLE IN CASES OF / CONSTIPATION, / INDIGESTION, / MALARIA, / KIDNEY, LIVER AND STOMACH / COMPLAINT. / A SPLENDID LAXATIVE / DIRECTIONS:   For Stomach Trouble and a General Tonic .... DOES NOT GRIPE / SHASTA BITTERS COMPANY / SACRAMENTO, CAL.
"

.

Shipping
: Free DOMESTIC shipping which INCLUDES insurance.   We do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate.  If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates.  We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.
The label of this bottle has just a beautiful lithograph picture of old, snow covered Mount Shasta, with the forested foothills in the foreground and what likes a river running through it, probably the Shasta River, which is a coastal river that forks into the Klamath River in Northern California. Bottle is a fancy square fifth with fluted neck and shoulders, just about what you'd figure a high-powered high-alcoholic content bitters would come in. This bottle is still corked and sealed and contains ‘
SHASTA BITTERS
', which was put out by who else but the Shasta Bitters Company, Sacramento, California. From what you can read on the label it goes on to say, "...
For Stomach Trouble and a General Tonic ... For a physic ... Does not gripe
... ... " And yes, as this style of this bottle suggests (fancy square whiskey fifth) it had a high alcohol content. This bottle is embossed on the base "
299H
", which in the past was erroneously attributed to the Holt Glass Company of West Berkeley, California. New research on this company has shown that there is very little information about this Glass Works and as a result, it has been decided that this glass company did not make the bottles that have the "H / number" embossing on the base, or many bottles at all, but mostly just basic functional glass like window glass, etc. But the fact that this bottle is listed in the Bitters Book and is the same style bottle with the same base embossing on it as this one, substantiates this as an authentic antique western bitters bottle. And with the
historically-valuable and rustic-looking 1890's image of Mt Shasta on the label
, it is quite the western bitters bottle. Also, the fact that earlier books on western bitters bottle did not include this bottle in them, like the Wilson book (which even has a section dedicated to labeled-only western bitters bottles), shows this to be a rare bottle as well. And then, to have it still filled with the original "Shasta Bitters", well all of these things together makes it a super desirable bitters bottle,
